Voice of an Angel

Voice of an Angel, known in Japan as Tenshi no Koe, is a manga series created by the artist Makimura Kumi. It emerged during a period in the late 1980s and early 1990s when shojo manga were deeply exploring themes of personal identity, music, and the emotional complexities of adolescence. Makimura Kumi utilized the medium to craft a narrative that resonates with the introspective and often melancholy tone characteristic of the era's storytelling, focusing on the intersection of individual dreams and social expectations.

The visual design of the series reflects the classic, delicate aesthetic typical of Makimura’s work, featuring expressive character archetypes and intricate panel layouts intended to draw the reader into the protagonist's internal monologue. While the series was never translated for a widespread international audience, it remains a notable example of the artist's specific stylistic contribution to the genre, appreciated by collectors for its earnest character development and the evocative, atmospheric quality of its ink work.
