Where it came from
Wakaba Girl, a manga series written and illustrated by Yui Hara, was originally serialized in the magazine Manga Time Kirara Forward between 2013 and 2014. The story centers on Wakaba Kohashi, a sheltered and wealthy young girl who attempts to integrate into the typical social life of a high school student. The work fits squarely within the 'kirara' style of four-panel manga, which emphasizes gentle humor and the everyday interactions of a close-knit group of female friends.
Yui Hara’s character design is noted for its clean lines and expressive, soft aesthetic, which complements the lighthearted, slice-of-life tone of the narrative. The series was well-received by fans of the genre, leading to a short-form anime adaptation produced by Nexus that aired in 2015. Through its focus on the juxtaposition of high-society manners and common school experiences, the series captures a distinct moment in the mid-2010s trend of observational, character-driven comedy manga.
