Where it came from
Wakusei Closet, or Planet Closet, is a singular manga volume authored by Tsubana, originally serialized in Kodansha's Afternoon magazine. The work emerged from a period of experimental Seinen storytelling, reflecting the author's interest in blending mundane adolescent life with surreal, science-fiction elements. It captures a specific atmospheric tone characterized by minimalist paneling and an emphasis on psychological isolation.
The narrative follows a protagonist who discovers a mysterious entity hiding within her closet, serving as a gateway to broader existential themes. Tsubana's design approach relies on stark contrast and sparse linework to heighten the sense of unease. Upon its release, the volume was noted by critics for its unconventional pacing and its ability to condense a complex, haunting premise into a concise, self-contained format, solidifying its place as a cult entry within contemporary manga anthologies.
