Where it came from
Watashi no Joushi, created by mangaka Tajima Mimi, emerged from the mid-2000s landscape of Japanese josei manga. This series focuses on the intricate power dynamics and romantic tensions between a female subordinate and her supervisor, a common trope within the genre that Tajima uses to explore contemporary professional life and personal boundaries in a Japanese office setting.
Tajima Mimi is noted for her clean, expressive linework and a character-driven approach that prioritizes emotional realism over melodrama. The series was serialized to cater to adult women looking for stories that balanced workplace challenges with nuanced relationship development, and it remains a representative example of the character-focused josei aesthetic that flourished during that period.
