Where it came from
Watashi wa Cinderella ni Korosareta is a seinen manga series written and illustrated by Kaoru Kusunoki, released during a period when psychological thrillers and dark, genre-bending narratives were gaining traction in Japanese manga magazines. The series functions as a subversion of traditional fairy tales, weaving themes of obsession and tragedy into a suspenseful mystery framework designed to challenge the reader's perceptions of classic archetypes.
Kusunoki, known for a distinctively moody and atmospheric art style, utilized sharp linework and stark contrasts to emphasize the psychological degradation of the characters. Upon its release, the work was noted by enthusiasts of the genre for its unconventional structure and its focus on the darker impulses underlying the Cinderella motif, establishing a niche but dedicated following among readers interested in psychological drama.
