When I Fell In Love at a Sakristan

When I Fell in Love at a Sakristan is a notable title within the contemporary Filipino komiks landscape, authored and illustrated by Richard Mercado. The work reflects the distinct evolution of the local independent scene, blending romantic themes with the cultural specificity of Philippine life. It was produced during a period when independent creators began utilizing self-publishing and small-press distribution to reach audiences seeking stories outside the traditional mainstream superhero or horror-focused narratives.

Mercado’s approach to the material emphasizes visual storytelling that leans into the nuances of daily life, aiming to capture the vulnerability inherent in its subject matter. By focusing on intimate, character-driven arcs, the volume contributes to a broader genre of slice-of-life komiks that have been well-received by regional enthusiasts for their relatable tone and stylistic simplicity. The work is recognized as a representative piece of Mercado’s artistic output, serving as an accessible entry point for readers interested in the modern independent komiks movement.
