Where it came from
Whether I'm Here or Not, known in Japan as 'Iru Koto ya nai', is a manga series by the acclaimed shōjo mangaka Ikuemi Ryou. Published in the early 2000s, the work reflects Ikuemi's signature approach to narrative, which often focuses on the subtle, quiet complexities of interpersonal relationships and the internal lives of adolescent characters rather than traditional dramatic tropes.
Ikuemi Ryou is highly regarded for her delicate linework and her ability to capture the nuance of human emotion through sparse dialogue and expressive character design. This series is recognized within her broader body of work for its melancholic tone and thoughtful exploration of identity and presence, solidifying her reputation as a master of the slice-of-life manga genre.
