Where it came from
Fox Children is the second volume in the Witcher comic book series published by Dark Horse, released in 2015 as a direct adaptation of a short story from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel Season of Storms. Set within the established dark fantasy universe of Geralt of Rivia, the narrative follows the Witcher as he finds himself aboard a ship plagued by a mysterious curse linked to a fox child. The comic serves as a bridge between the literary source material and the broader visual identity established by the successful video game adaptations.
The series was written by Paul Tobin, a seasoned writer known for his work on licensed properties, and features art by Joe Querio. The creative team aimed to maintain the gritty, morally complex atmosphere characteristic of Sapkowski’s prose while translating the Witcher's signature monster-hunting mechanics into a sequential art format. Upon release, the volume was noted for its faithful tonal consistency and its ability to expand on the folklore-inspired world-building that defines the franchise, gaining favorable reception among fans of both the books and the games.
