Wonder Project J2 - Josette of Koruro Forest

Wonder Project J2: Josette of Koruro Forest was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996, serving as a successor to the original Wonder Project J on the Super Famicom. Developed by Almanic Corporation and published by Enix, the game was part of a genre experiment blending life simulation with adventure mechanics. It was designed to leverage the N64’s hardware capabilities to provide a more immersive experience for players tasked with raising the gynoid protagonist, Josette.

The character design was spearheaded by manga artist Raka Masaki, whose aesthetic contribution helped define the whimsical, expressive tone of the game. Masaki sought to create a character that felt both mechanical and deeply human, prompting the player to form an emotional connection with Josette through dialogue and instructional interaction. While the game was praised for its technical ambition and unique premise, it remained a Japan-exclusive title, leading to a cult following among international collectors who value its historical place in the evolution of artificial intelligence-themed simulation games.
