Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii

Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii, known in English as Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, began as a webcomic published on Pixiv by the artist Fujita in 2014. The series gained significant traction among digital readers for its relatable, grounded depiction of otaku culture within the context of a contemporary workplace. Following its online success, the series was serialized in Ichijinsha's Comic Pool digital magazine, eventually being collected into tankōbon volumes that resonated with readers who appreciated the balance between romantic comedy and the nuances of niche fandoms.

Fujita’s approach to the series prioritizes the character dynamics between colleagues who navigate their professional lives while concealing or managing their respective hobbies. The design and aesthetic focus on a clean, modern style that transitions well from digital panels to print. Upon its release, the volume collection was widely praised by critics and readers alike for subverting typical tropes associated with workplace romances, leading to its adaptation into both an anime series and a live-action feature film.
