Xiānshī 90 Hòu

Xiānshī 90 Hòu emerged from the vibrant landscape of contemporary Chinese digital comics, curated by the A4 Comics collective. Produced in the early 2010s, this anthology reflects the cultural zeitgeist of China's post-1990 generation, often referred to as the 90 Hòu. The collection was designed to capture the specific anxieties, digital habits, and shifting social values of young urbanites navigating a rapidly modernizing society, bridging the gap between traditional manhua influences and the aesthetic trends of the internet era.

The editorial team at A4 Comics focused on a collaborative approach, inviting various illustrators to contribute vignettes that resonated with the daily experiences of their demographic. By grounding their visual storytelling in relatable, contemporary scenarios, the series was received as a candid, if occasionally idealized, look at the lives of youth coming of age. It stands as a significant artifact of the mid-2010s Chinese indie comic scene, representing a period where digital platforms became the primary gallery for emerging domestic graphic artists.
