Xuan Yuan-Sword Legend: The Gate of Firmament

Xuan Yuan-Sword Legend: The Gate of Firmament, released in 2015, serves as the twelfth main entry in the long-running Xuan-Yuan Sword series developed by Softstar Entertainment's DOMO Studio. Established in 1990, the series is a cornerstone of Chinese role-playing games, known for blending historical settings with xianxia mythology and wuxia elements. This particular volume was produced during a transition period for the studio as they aimed to modernize the series' technical capabilities and narrative depth, set specifically during the mythical era of the Yellow Emperor.

The development of the game focused on humanizing the gods and mythological figures central to Chinese folklore, marking a shift toward more character-driven storytelling within the established franchise. DOMO Studio sought to refine their traditional turn-based combat systems while incorporating a more cinematic presentation. Upon its release, the title received attention for its atmospheric world-building and its attempt to bridge the gap between classic PC role-playing tropes and evolving industry standards for 3D graphics.
