Yancha Gal no Anjou-san (Pre-Serialization)

The pre-serialization version of Yancha Gal no Anjou-san originated as a series of short, standalone manga sketches posted by Katou Yuuichi to his personal Twitter account beginning in late 2017. These early installments were intended as experimental character studies focusing on the dynamic between the assertive, charismatic high schooler Anna Anjou and her more reserved classmate, Seto. The lighthearted, teasing nature of these initial posts resonated with online audiences, quickly garnering significant social media engagement and establishing the core archetypes that would define the series.

The design of the character Anna Anjou was intended to subvert tropes of the typical aloof gal character, opting instead for a friendly and proactive approach to social interaction. Katou Yuuichi’s art style, characterized by expressive facial features and dynamic posing, helped the character gain a distinct visual identity during this developmental phase. Following the positive reception of these social media snippets, the work was eventually refined and expanded into a formal serialization in Young King Magazine, marking the transition from a casual web project to a commercial publication.
