Ygg-Drasil

Ygg-Drasil is a manga series authored by Yoshihiko Ochi, serialized in the mid-1990s. The work emerged during a period when Japanese pop culture frequently drew upon Norse mythology to structure high-fantasy narratives. Ochi utilized the concept of the world tree as a central thematic anchor, crafting a story that explores complex relationships between humanity and divine or mystical entities, characterized by the artist's distinctively detailed and occasionally surreal paneling style.

The series is often categorized within the niche fantasy manga of its era, noted for its ambitious world-building and character designs that prioritize atmospheric depth over standard shonen tropes. While it did not reach the widespread commercial ubiquity of major weekly magazine hits, it maintains a dedicated following among collectors of 1990s experimental fantasy manga. Critics have often highlighted Ochi's ability to weave intricate mythological elements into a cohesive, if dense, serialized format.
