Where it came from
Released in 2003 to accompany the launch of the PlayStation 2 title Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses, this strategy guide was published by Prima Games during the height of the series' global popularity. The game itself was a significant departure from the standard card-battling mechanics of the era, utilizing a unique tactical grid system inspired by the War of the Roses, which necessitated a comprehensive companion for players navigating its complex deck-building and movement rules.
The guide was authored by Elliott Chin, a veteran of the gaming journalism industry known for his detailed approach to strategy writing. Chin structured the text to serve as both a walkthrough for the campaign's historical-fantasy narrative and a technical reference for the game's unconventional combat mechanics. It was well-received by fans at the time as a necessary tool for mastering the game's steep learning curve, remaining a staple reference for collectors interested in the experimental era of early 2000s console adaptations.
