Where it came from
Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Stories is a serialized manga project launched in V Jump magazine, designed to bridge the narrative gap between the history of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game and its extensive lore. Authored by Shin Yoshida, who has served as a central figure in the franchise's story composition for years, the series focuses on dramatizing the background stories of legendary card themes like Sky Striker and Infernoble Knights. It serves as an official expansion of the card game's world-building, transforming static card illustrations into cohesive, character-driven story arcs.
The aesthetic and narrative direction reflect the core values of the Trading Card Game, emphasizing the strategic and emotional bonds between duelists and their monsters. By giving faces and personalities to characters previously known only through flavor text or card mechanics, the series has been well-received by the dedicated player base. It functions both as an instructional lore guide and as a standalone fantasy narrative, maintaining a faithful connection to the established canon of the long-running franchise.
