Yuru/Zero emerged as a creative product of the thriving Japanese doujinshi subculture, where fan artists explore crossover narratives between distinct intellectual properties. Created by Shimazaki Mujirushi, the volume playfully subverts the tonal dissonance between the lighthearted school-life antics of Namori's YuruYuri and the grim, high-stakes magical combat of Gen Urobuchi's Fate/Zero. This mashup format highlights the doujinshi community's tradition of stylistic experimentation, reimagining the characters of the former within the dark, aesthetic framework of the latter.

The work was designed as a parody, leveraging the visual shorthand of both franchises to generate humor through incongruity.
