Where it came from
Zombie Men was created by mangaka Eri Oka, emerging as a distinct title within the landscape of early 2000s horror manga. The series was developed during a period of renewed interest in the zombie subgenre in Japan, blending traditional suspense tropes with a unique visual shorthand that prioritized eerie atmosphere over conventional gore.
Oka’s design approach for the series focused on character transformation and the psychological erosion of the human protagonists. Upon its initial serial publication, the work garnered attention for its unconventional pacing and minimalist character designs, which were intended to evoke a sense of uncanny detachment in the reader. It is remembered today as a niche contribution to the horror genre, noted for its specific aesthetic consistency.
