Where it came from
Zombie Shark Bear emerged from the imaginative mind of Anthony Malone Andres as a centerpiece for his eponymous series. The work represents a playful, high-concept fusion of apex predator tropes blended with the horror-comedy aesthetic that gained traction in independent graphic storytelling during the early 21st century. It was created to explore themes of survival and absurdity, positioning the creature as both a monstrous antagonist and a darkly humorous symbol of ecological collapse.
The design of the character centers on exaggerated, visceral imagery intended to subvert the traditional expectations of creature design in contemporary manga. By layering the relentless predatory nature of a shark with the physical heft and ferocity of a bear, all under the guise of an undead anomaly, Andres crafted a visual language that balances grotesque detail with stylized character movement. The series was developed as a niche project, receiving moderate attention from fans of experimental indie horror for its unconventional character design and kinetic paneling.
