Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 psychological horror film, Psycho, was produced as a low-budget experiment to explore the boundaries of the then-restrictive Motion Picture Association of America code. Janet Leigh’s performance as Marion Crane, juxtaposed with Anthony Perkins’ turn as Norman Bates, challenged contemporary audience expectations by subverting the traditional narrative structure early in the runtime.
