Where it came from
The Borsalino character card, originating from the One Piece Card Game set The Time of Battle (OP-09), depicts the Marine Admiral Kizaru. This alternate art version was introduced to provide collectors and players with a visually distinct premium aesthetic, featuring stylized foil treatments that deviate from the standard card frame. The design choices for these alternate arts are intended to celebrate iconic character moments while emphasizing the high-production value that has defined the game since its launch.
The card was released during the ongoing expansion of the One Piece trading card ecosystem, which emphasizes mechanical depth alongside high-fidelity artwork. By leveraging the immense cultural history of Eiichiro Oda's original manga and anime, the game design team collaborated with various illustrators to create these collectable variants. The reception among the community has been defined by a strong focus on both the visual rarity of the cards and their utility in competitive deck structures, particularly those utilizing the Navy-aligned card archetypes.
