Where it came from
The Building Snake character card, designated OP17-025, originated as part of the 'The World's Strongest Warriors' expansion set for the One Piece Card Game. The card features Pandaman, a recurring 'easter egg' character created by series author Eiichiro Oda who secretly appears in the background of nearly every chapter of the manga. This specific design leans into the meta-humor surrounding the character, portraying him as a literal construction or building-themed figure to match the set's aesthetic themes.
The artistic direction for this card was intended to celebrate the long-standing tradition of hide-and-seek gaming Oda established with his readers. By featuring Pandaman prominently, the designers aimed to reward observant fans who have spent decades tracking the character's appearances. Upon its release, the card was received warmly by the collecting community as a whimsical, tongue-in-cheek inclusion that adds a layer of levity to the more serious competitive landscape of the card game.
