Captain John

Captain John was introduced as part of the OP-07 expansion set for the One Piece Card Game, titled 500 Years in the Future. This set draws heavily from the Egghead Arc of the source material, focusing on characters associated with advanced technology, the history of the world government, and the legendary figures of the past. The card was designed to reflect the character's status as a formidable pirate captain from the Rocks Pirates era, utilizing the game's mechanics to represent his reputation as a treasure-obsessed rogue.

The art style follows the high-contrast, dynamic aesthetic established by Bandai for the One Piece trading card series. Illustrators tasked with the set aimed to capture the gritty, classic pirate aesthetic of the character, contrasting with the futuristic themes prevalent elsewhere in the expansion. Upon release, the card was noted by players for its synergy within purple-colored deck builds, serving as a tactical piece that leverages the discard and ramp mechanics central to the game's evolving strategy.
