Crescent Cutlass

The Crescent Cutlass event card was released as part of the Azure Sea's Seven expansion, a set centered on the high-fantasy nautical themes prevalent in the game's mid-cycle lore. It was designed to provide players with a versatile utility mechanic, allowing for a tactical maneuver that reflects the fluid, sweeping motion of its namesake blade. The card was developed to bridge the gap between aggressive deck archetypes and control-heavy strategies, serving as a pivotal tool for resetting the battlefield state.

The illustrative work for this piece was commissioned to emphasize a clean, minimalist aesthetic, contrasting with the often dense artwork found in earlier expansions. Designers focused on a crescent-shaped focal point to represent the weapon's signature arc, aiming to evoke a sense of precision and kinetic energy. Upon its release, the card received a positive reception from the competitive community for its balanced risk-to-reward ratio and its distinct, recognizable visual identity within the broader set.
