Provenance

Where it came from

The Higuma card was released in 2023 as part of the Starter Deck: Side Monkey D. Luffy (ST-08) for the One Piece Card Game. This set was specifically designed to highlight the early days of Monkey D. Luffy’s journey, focusing on his childhood interactions in the East Blue saga. The inclusion of Higuma, the mountain bandit who antagonized a young Luffy and Shanks, serves as a narrative anchor for the set, representing the primary antagonist of the series' opening flashback sequence.

The card features artwork consistent with the Bandai Namco aesthetic for the game, utilizing character designs directly adapted from Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga. By emphasizing characters from the 'Romance Dawn' arc, the design team aimed to provide players with a sense of historical context within the series, catering to both competitive players and fans of the source material who appreciate the continuity of the One Piece universe.
