Provenance

Where it came from

The 'I Bid 500 Million!!' card (OP05-096) was released as part of the promotional offerings for the One Piece Card Game's first anniversary tournament series. Issued during the Awakening of the New Era cycle, these cards were intended to celebrate the game's initial year of growth and provide competitive players with high-rarity, event-specific variants of standard gameplay cards. The card serves as a thematic nod to the iconic moment in the series where Monkey D. Luffy famously bids an absurd amount of money during the auction house sequence on Sabaody Archipelago.

The card features artwork that emphasizes the hyperbolic and comedic tone of the original manga panel, utilizing the established visual language of the card game's design team. Because these tournament-distributed cards were produced in limited quantities for specific event participants, they became highly sought after by collectors interested in the competitive history of the game. The reception of the design has been largely positive among fans who appreciate the meta-narrative humor present in the series being translated directly into the mechanics of the event cards.
