Where it came from
Kaku (OP03-059) was released as part of the Pillars of Strength set in the One Piece Card Game, which debuted globally in 2022 to celebrate the long-running manga and anime franchise. Designed to introduce tactical diversity to the Blue color deck, this card represents Kaku during his time as an assassin for CP9. The art captures his distinct giraffe-human hybrid form, utilizing the high-contrast, kinetic illustration style characteristic of the set's efforts to translate Eiichiro Oda's complex character designs into a competitive trading card format.
The card was released during the game's initial growth phase, a period when Bandai focused on balancing mechanical depth with thematic loyalty to the Water 7 story arc. Upon its introduction, the card was received by players as a pivotal utility piece, valued for its ability to remove opposing characters from the board. Its design prioritized board control, reflecting the efficiency and lethality Kaku displayed in the series, and it remains a staple for collectors interested in the CP9 faction within the game's meta-history.
