Where it came from
The Kaku (Alternate Art) card, designated EB04-043, was released as part of the 'Adventure on Kami's Island' expansion for the One Piece Card Game. This set was designed to broaden the strategic depth of the game, introducing unique mechanics and thematic consistency centered around the Water 7 and Enies Lobby story arcs. The card depicts Kaku, the skilled CP9 assassin, in a stylistically distinct art form that deviates from the standard character card aesthetic to provide collectors with a more premium, visually evocative representation of the antagonist.
The design of this alternate art iteration focuses on capturing the character's agile, swordsman persona, utilizing a high-contrast palette and dynamic linework. It was developed to serve as a high-rarity chase item for collectors, balancing functional utility in deck-building with the aesthetic appeal of collectible illustration. Since its release, the card has been received well within the trading card community, specifically noted for the quality of its artwork and the relative scarcity of its alternate art variant compared to the base card print.
