Where it came from
Released as part of the Emperors in the New World set (OP-09) for the One Piece Card Game, this card features the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy rendered in the distinct, high-contrast manga-style art that has become a hallmark of the game's sought-after secret rare cards. It was produced to commemorate pivotal moments in the series' narrative arc, specifically focusing on the power dynamics and character evolutions seen within the New World saga.
The design utilizes original black-and-white manga panels, stripping away standard coloring to emphasize the dynamic line work and dramatic shading synonymous with Eiichiro Oda's drafting style. This aesthetic choice is intended to appeal directly to long-term fans of the source material, positioning the card as a collectible art piece rather than merely a functional component of a deck. Upon release, these manga-variant cards were received with significant enthusiasm by the collecting community due to their scarcity and visual departure from the vibrant, full-color cards typical of the TCG.
