Where it came from
The Monkey D. Luffy P-001 card was released in 2022 as part of the promotional rollout for the One Piece Card Game. Specifically, this 'Super Pre-Release' winner edition was awarded to top-placing participants during the game's initial demo and tournament events held ahead of the official Japanese launch. These events were designed to build early community engagement and generate hype for the game's mechanics, which emphasize the distinct color-coded strategies inherent to the One Piece franchise.
The card features artwork derived from Eiichiro Oda's original manga illustrations, capturing Luffy in an iconic, dynamic stance that serves as the visual anchor for the red-deck archetype. As the face of the inaugural set, the card was intended to establish the visual language of the game, utilizing high-quality foil stamping and unique branding to distinguish the limited-distribution winner versions from standard base sets. Its rarity and the circumstances of its distribution led to its quick elevation as a cornerstone piece for dedicated collectors of the series.
