Where it came from
The Perona (OP14-033) Alternate Art card debuted in the One Piece Card Game expansion set The Azure Sea's Seven. This set was designed to capture the atmospheric tension of the Thriller Bark arc, centering on thematic mechanics that interact with the discard pile and board control. The card features Perona, the Ghost Princess, rendered in a striking illustrative style that emphasizes her signature spectral aesthetic, aligning with the game's broader commitment to high-quality character artwork that appeals to both competitive players and fans of the source material.
The design of this alternate art variation follows the game's precedent of using specialized artistic renditions to denote rarity and collectibility. Illustrators commissioned for these pieces often lean into the whimsical yet eerie nature of the character, utilizing distinct color palettes to distinguish them from standard card versions. Upon release, the card was well received by the community for its visual appeal and its functional utility within Thriller Bark-themed decks, solidifying its status as a desirable piece within the set's hierarchy.
