Where it came from
Released in 2023 as part of the Pillars of Strength expansion for the One Piece Card Game, the Portgas D. Ace leader card commemorates one of the most iconic figures from Eiichiro Oda's long-running manga series. The card was designed to anchor the Red color deck archetype, focusing on the aggressive, high-pressure playstyle associated with the Whitebeard Pirates. Its introduction served to broaden the tactical variety of the game, offering players a way to utilize the Fire Fist’s thematic abilities in a competitive meta.
The alternate art version of this card features distinctive, high-contrast illustration work that diverges from the standard game aesthetic to provide a premium, collector-focused visual experience. By utilizing dynamic line work and bold color palettes to emphasize Ace's signature flame-based abilities, the designers aimed to capture the intensity of his character. Upon release, the card was highly sought after by collectors for its artistic departure from typical trading card layouts and its significance as a focal point for deck building.
