Where it came from
The Portgas D. Ace card from the ST-28 Starter Deck: Yamato, released as part of the OP09 expansion in the One Piece Card Game, serves as a reprint of a character pivotal to the Marineford arc. This card reflects the ongoing strategy of Bandai to reintroduce essential characters into new starter deck archetypes, allowing players to integrate high-utility cards into the Green/Yellow color combination featured in the Yamato deck.
The design maintains the aesthetic consistency of the One Piece Card Game, prioritizing character clarity and the dynamic action-oriented art style established by the game's illustrators. By reissuing this iteration of Ace within the Yamato-focused set, the developers aimed to support specific deck synergies while honoring one of the most recognizable figures in the franchise's history. It has been received by the player base as a practical addition for building competitive decks that utilize the specific mechanical traits associated with the Green and Yellow card types.
