Where it came from
Shimotsuki Ushimaru (OP16-088) was released as part of the Time of Battle event set for the One Piece Card Game. This card captures a significant figure from the Wano Country arc, depicting the former daimyo of Ringo whose lineage is deeply tied to the history of the legendary samurai Ryuma. The card was designed to highlight the stoic, battle-hardened nature of the Shimotsuki clan, utilizing the distinct artistic style characteristic of the set's premium event promos to emphasize his prowess with a blade.
The character design draws heavily from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga illustrations, focusing on Ushimaru's iconic topknot and traditional samurai attire. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players and collectors alike, particularly those focused on the 'Wano' thematic deck builds. Its inclusion in the Time of Battle event solidified its status as a sought-after piece for fans of the series' lore, serving as both a functional gameplay card and a tribute to the tragic history of the Shimotsuki family.
