Where it came from
Thatch, also known as 'Thatch the Thatch-Armed,' is a character from the One Piece trading card game featured in the Set Sail Deck Set. The card design draws directly from the source material, capturing the aesthetic of the Whitebeard Pirates' fourth division commander. As a character card in the OP16-005 slot, it reflects the ongoing thematic expansion of the card game, which utilizes iconic character art from the manga and anime to create strategic gameplay loops centered around the series' extensive cast.
The card was produced as part of the broader effort to bring One Piece lore into the tabletop gaming space. Designed to function within specific deck archetypes, the card's illustration focuses on delivering a recognizable depiction of the character, consistent with the art direction maintained by Bandai for the set. Upon its release, the set was aimed at both competitive players and series enthusiasts, serving as a functional tool for deck-building while doubling as a collectible reference to the character's role in the Marineford and flashback storylines.
