Where it came from
Wanze, the noodle-wielding agent of CP9, appears in the Pillars of Strength expansion for the One Piece Card Game. This set was designed to integrate characters from the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs, focusing on the tactical synergy between the CP9 members and the Navy factions. The card was created to reflect Wanze's eccentric fighting style, utilizing the game's mechanics to represent his bizarre culinary combat techniques against Sanji during the siege of the sea train, the Puffing Tom.
The card art follows the standard illustrative aesthetic of the One Piece Card Game, prioritizing character accuracy and dynamic poses that mirror the original manga panels by Eiichiro Oda. Like many cards in the Pillars of Strength set, Wanze was developed to serve as a niche utility character, providing specific strategic support for purple-aligned decks. Upon its release, it was recognized by players primarily as a flavor-driven inclusion that rounded out the CP9 roster for deck-building completionists.
