Where it came from
The Aggron card from the Rising Rivals set was released by The Pokémon Company in 2009 as part of the broader Diamond & Pearl series era. This set was designed to showcase the competitive 'LV.X' mechanics and featured a variety of Pokémon with unique abilities and thematic ties to the Gym Leaders and Elite Four of the Sinnoh region, reflecting a period of intense focus on strategic gameplay in the trading card game.
The card features artwork by Midori Harada, a prolific artist in the Pokémon TCG who is well-regarded for her dynamic and textured approach to illustration. In this piece, she utilizes a signature style that emphasizes the heavy, industrial nature of Aggron's design, using metallic shading to convey the Pokémon's armored typing. Upon its release, the card was received as a solid rare inclusion for metal-type decks, praised by players for its ability to integrate into the synergy-heavy strategies common to the mid-2000s card pool.
