Where it came from
The Alolan Marowak card, numbered 12/131, was released as part of the Forbidden Light expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in English markets in 2018. The set is based on the Sun & Moon series, drawing inspiration from the tropical Alola region. In this iteration, the Fire-type Pokémon features the unique regional variant design introduced in the seventh generation of games, characterized by its ghost-fire aesthetic and the use of a bone torch.
The artwork for this specific card was rendered by illustrator Kouki Saitou, who has contributed extensively to the Pokémon TCG. Saitou focused on a dynamic, atmospheric composition that emphasizes the spectral nature of the Alolan variant's flames. Upon its release, the card was received as a standard Rare within the set, appreciated by players and collectors for its striking color palette and its integration of the Alolan form's distinct, mythical lore.
