Provenance

Where it came from

The Buffer Piece card was released as part of the Dragon Frontiers expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which hit shelves in late 2006. This set is particularly notable for its focus on Delta Species Pokémon and the return of dual-type mechanics, capturing a time when the game was heavily emphasizing elemental shifts and experimental tactical tools within the competitive meta.

The artwork for this trainer card was provided by illustrator Ryo Ueda, known for a distinctively clean and technical style that fit well with the utilitarian function of the card. Within the game, Buffer Piece was designed to provide defensive utility by reducing damage from attacks, reflecting the expansion's strategic focus on survivability in a format characterized by high-damage output.
