Where it came from
Bunnelby 97/131 was released as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion Forbidden Light, which launched internationally in May 2018. This set was based on the Japanese expansion Forbidden Light, serving as the sixth main set in the Sun & Moon series. The set focused on the narrative surrounding the Legendary Pokémon Necrozma and its various forms, reflecting the lore established in the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon video games.
The card features artwork by illustrator kawayoo, known for a distinctive, painterly style that often emphasizes the texture and habitat of the featured creatures. In this illustration, Bunnelby is depicted in a natural, burrowed stance consistent with its behavior as a Ground-type rabbit Pokémon. As a common-rarity colorless card, it was designed primarily for foundational deck-building rather than competitive play, serving as a standard entry for players collecting the complete Forbidden Light set.
