Provenance

Where it came from

The Burmy Trash Cloak card was released in 2007 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion titled Secret Wonders. This set was the third installment in the Diamond & Pearl series, which introduced the fourth generation of Pokémon to the TCG. The card serves as a thematic representation of Burmy, a unique creature known for its ability to change its appearance based on the environment in which it last battled, with the Trash Cloak variant appearing when the Pokémon hides amidst discarded refuse.

The artwork for this card was illustrated by Ken Sugimori, the primary designer and character creator for the Pokémon franchise. Sugimori’s style for the Diamond & Pearl era prioritized clean, distinct lines that emphasized the biological characteristics of the creatures. As a common card, it was designed primarily for gameplay utility within the limited format of the time, and it remains a modest piece of mid-2000s TCG history that captures the regional diversity of the Sinnoh region.
