Carvanha δ

Released in the 2006 Holon Phantoms expansion, the Carvanha δ card is part of the unique Delta Species mechanic introduced by the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the late EX series era. In the lore of this set, the Delta Species were Pokémon that had been exposed to electromagnetic waves at the Holon Research Tower, resulting in them gaining different elemental types than they would naturally possess. This design experiment allowed players to incorporate traditionally water-based creatures into fighting-type decks, reflecting the transformative nature of the Holon setting.

The card features artwork by illustrator Kouki Saitou, who was tasked with visualizing these altered species for the Holon Phantoms set. Saitou focused on depicting Carvanha with an aesthetic that highlighted its shift into the fighting type, emphasizing the jagged, aggressive nature of the Pokémon through distinct color palettes and environmental shifts. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, if common, utility piece for competitive players looking to exploit type advantages within the specific rulesets of the Delta Species environment.
