Cryogonal

Cryogonal was introduced to the Pokémon Trading Card Game as part of the Black & White: Emerging Powers expansion, which was released in international markets in August 2011. This set was designed to integrate the newly debuted Generation V Pokémon from the Black and White video games into the card game format, filling the gap between the initial Black & White base set and subsequent expansions. The inclusion of Cryogonal reflected the game's shift toward the Isshu region, focusing on Pokémon with distinct elemental typings and abilities suited for the revamped competitive meta of the time.

The card features artwork by illustrator Masakazu Fukuda, who has contributed extensively to the Pokémon Trading Card Game franchise since the early 2000s. Fukuda's design for this particular Cryogonal emphasizes its crystalline, snowflake-inspired anatomy, utilizing a stark blue and icy aesthetic that aligns with its Water-type classification. Like many uncommon cards in the mid-Black & White era, it was designed as a functional piece for players to utilize in draft formats and theme decks, serving as a relatively accessible option for trainers needing reliable Water-type energy support.
