Dhelmise V

Dhelmise V was released as part of the Sword & Shield base set, which debuted in early 2020 as the inaugural expansion for the eighth generation of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set introduced the V mechanic to replace the previous GX cards, signifying a shift in gameplay toward higher base HP and powerful single-stage attacks. Dhelmise, a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation, was selected for this ultra-rare treatment to showcase its unique spectral, ship-wreck-inspired design within the new aesthetic parameters of the Galar region era.

The artwork for this card was handled by Eske Yoshinob, a prolific illustrator for the franchise known for their dramatic use of lighting and dynamic, high-contrast digital compositions. In this piece, Dhelmise is rendered with a menacing, metallic sheen that emphasizes its rusted anchor structure and seaweed-like appendages. Upon its release, the card was received as a solid utility choice for competitive players due to its 'Anchor Wrath' attack, which benefited from the increased synergy and support cards provided to Grass-type decks at the beginning of the Sword & Shield cycle.
