Energy Charge

Energy Charge was released in 2000 as part of the Neo Genesis expansion, the first set in the Pokémon Trading Card Game to feature Generation II creatures from the Gold and Silver video games. It was designed to introduce players to new mechanics following the established Base Set era, serving as a tactical item card that allowed players to search their discard pile for energy cards to replenish their hand. This period marked a significant shift in the game's competitive meta, as the Neo series expanded the card pool and introduced more complex utility effects.

The artwork for this specific card was illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi, an artist known for his distinctive, often geometric or abstract aesthetic in the early Pokémon TCG run. Kinebuchi’s work during the Neo era frequently utilized stylized lighting and digital-leaning compositions, setting these cards apart from the more illustrative, watercolor-style paintings found in the initial Wizards of the Coast sets.
