Where it came from
The Giratina V promo card, numbered SWSH259, was released in 2022 as part of the Sword & Shield Black Star Promos series. It was specifically included in the Giratina V Figure Collection box, a special release intended to highlight the mascot legendary Pokémon of the Distortion World from the Sinnoh region. This set was designed to capture the atmospheric, otherworldly nature of the character, utilizing the game's V mechanic which features high-power, high-risk gameplay dynamics.
The illustration is credited to illustrator N-DESIGN Inc., a studio frequently commissioned for Pokémon Trading Card Game art. The design team focused on showcasing Giratina in its Origin Forme, emphasizing its ethereal, ghostly aesthetic and signature golden bands. The card was well-received by players and collectors alike, serving as an accessible way for enthusiasts to obtain a powerful card featuring a popular legendary Pokémon that had previously seen extensive play during the Sword & Shield era.
