Provenance

Where it came from

Gloom 198/197 is an Illustration Rare card from the Obsidian Flames expansion, released by The Pokémon Company International in August 2023. As part of the Scarlet & Violet series, this expansion focused on introducing Tera Pokémon ex, though the Illustration Rare category specifically highlights the artistic potential of the trading card game by granting talented illustrators freedom to create expansive, character-focused scenes.

The artwork for this specific card was created by artist Shiburingaru. The design departs from traditional battle-oriented action poses, instead depicting Gloom in a quiet, moody, and slightly whimsical forest setting. This shift toward atmospheric storytelling has made Illustration Rares highly sought after by collectors who prioritize the aesthetic and artistic evolution of the modern card game over purely competitive utility.
