Where it came from
Goomy first appeared as card 91/131 in the Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion titled Forbidden Light, released internationally in May 2018. This set was based on the Japanese expansion Forbidden Light, which drew thematic inspiration from the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon video games, specifically focusing on the mysterious Ultra Beasts and the legendary Pokémon Necrozma. As a common card, it was designed to be widely accessible to players and collectors while representing the Dragon-type roster within the Alola region meta.
The illustration for this card was created by artist Mizue, who has contributed numerous artworks to the Pokémon TCG series. Mizue utilized a soft, pastel aesthetic to depict Goomy in a naturalistic habitat, emphasizing the Pokémon's squishy, slug-like physiology and cheerful expression. The artwork was well-received by collectors for its whimsical charm and consistent stylistic adherence to the aesthetic standards of the Sun & Moon era, effectively capturing the creature's humble character as established in the broader Pokémon franchise.
