What it does

Stadium

Steven's Pokémon (both yours and your opponent's) take 30 less damage from attacks from the opponent's Pokémon (after applying Weakness and Resistance).

You may play only 1 Stadium card during your turn. Put it next to the Active Spot, and discard it if another Stadium comes into play. A Stadium with the same name can't be played.

Provenance

Where it came from

Granite Cave was introduced as part of the Destined Rivals expansion, drawing its inspiration from the iconic location of the same name within the Hoenn region of the Pokémon world. Originally appearing in the third generation of games, the cave is recognized for its dark, subterranean depths and as the site where players first encounter the trainer Steven Stone. The card serves as a Stadium card, a staple mechanic in the Pokémon Trading Card Game designed to represent the terrain of a battle and provide specific strategic advantages to players during play.

The artwork for this particular card captures the jagged, mineral-rich aesthetic of its namesake, intended to evoke the rugged atmosphere of the Hoenn region's caves. As an uncommon card, it reflects the typical design philosophy of supporting cards in the set, prioritizing functional utility for competitive players over the aesthetic flourishes reserved for rarer holofoil or full-art cards. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its ability to impact board states by interacting with fighting-type strategies, cementing its role as a calculated addition to the game's expansive meta-environment.
