Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2001 as part of the Neo Revelation expansion, this card represents the second generation of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Following the introduction of the Johto region in the previous Neo sets, Neo Revelation focused on the legendary Pokémon of the region, including the legendary beasts and the elusive Celebi. As an uncommon Fighting-type card, this Graveler served as a staple evolution card for players building decks around the Geodude line, bridging the gap between basic Pokémon and the powerful Golem.

The artwork for this card was created by artist Atsuko Nishida, who has been a long-time contributor to the Pokémon franchise. Nishida is well known for her foundational role in character design, most famously as the original designer of Pikachu. For this particular card, she utilized the bold, expressive style characteristic of the early Neo era, emphasizing the rugged, rocky texture of the Graveler to ground the character firmly within its geological type while maintaining the playability required for the competitive landscape of the time.
